Schermo dell'Arte - Archivio Film  Presented at the 15th edition of Lo schermo dell'arte, 2022

An account of how famous South African artist William Kentridge used his time during the pandemic. Shot entirely in his studio, dressed in black trousers and white shirt, Kentridge works between drawing and cinema, from animation to sculpture, and plays by drawing and undoing images with Méliès cinematic tricks. He ironically confronts a second version of himself, with whom he converses, as if this double were his subconscious. Together, they retrace the themes that characterize the artist's work: apartheid, childhood, South African landscapes.

William Kentridge
(Johannesburg, South Africa, 1955) is internationally acclaimed for his drawings, sculptures, animations, films and theatrical and opera productions. His works have been exhibited in museums, galleries and biennals around the world since the 1990s. In addition to numerous awards, he has received honorary doctorates from several universities, including Yale and University of London.
