Artist Andres Serrano is best known for his provocative photographs. His first film is a compilation of various materials about Trump supporters' assault on Capitol Hill in Washington on January 6, 2021, to protest the result of the 2020 elections which made Democrat Joe Biden the new President of the United States. Matching historical footage, recent news reports and numerous recordings posted online, Insurrection is an unfiltered look at the events that culminated in the riot. Serrano furiously combines live footage from social media and public platforms with archival materials, ranging from flapper dancing to the riots of the Depression years, to footage of Malcolm X and Fidel Castro. The images are interspersed with a series of signs sampled from D. W. Griffith's 1915 silent film, The Birth of a Nation. Insurrection was produced by the London-based non-profit organization a/political, with which Serrano continues his critical exploration of Trump's advertising machine and the devotional manifestations of his supporters, which began with the series of works The Game: All Things Trump, (2018-2019), a project previewed in New York by a/political in 2019.

He took part in the  in the Havana Biennale (2012) and in the Venice Biennale (1993). Insurrection is his first film.
