The Bauhaus school, founded in 1919, heralded a new era of innovative design and pioneering architecture, but was also driven by the desire to build a radically new society based on gender equality. But today the best known names are those of the great masters who taught there, such as Walter Gropius, Johannes Itten, Paul Klee. The nearly 500 women artists who studied and taught there, decisively shaping our current vision of design, are still in the shadow of their male colleagues or are even forgotten. This documentary is a tribute to these figures, including Alma Buscher, Marianne Brandt, Gunta Stölzl, Friedl Dicker and Lucia Moholy, author of the most famous photographs of the Bauhaus to date. Women and artists, they still represent models of courage and determination today and were recently celebrated in the Women in Abstraction exhibition which was held at the Center Pompidou in the summer of 2021.

Susanne Radelhof lives and works between Berlin and Weimar. Since 2008 she has been working as a production assistant in the making of films for cinema and television. As a director she has made documentary films that have been presented in numerous international festivals.
