Presented at Lo schermo dell'arte Film Festival 2014 In collaboration with Le Murate. Progetti Arte Contemporanea
The film arises from a residential architecture project, “Maison Dom-Ino” (Domus – Innovation), published in 1914 by Le Corbusier: a structure of prefab panels and pilasters destined to redefine architecture through the use of new, highly economical reinforced concrete technology. A hundred years after its invention, Dom-Ino is a pre-defined construction formula that espresses the essence of modernism. The video 99 Dom-Ino documents the project’s impact on Italy’s: from post-war boom to the public housing projects of the 70s, and the rise of real estate firms in the 80s. The film comprises a loop of 99 shorts, filmed all over Italy, 99 testimonials from those who built the houses, and lived in them. 99 Dom-Ino reflects multiple narratives, aesthetics and lifestyle that transformed Italy’s modern homes and landscape. What emerges is a map of Italy’s architectural landscape, and a detailed, nuanced picture of Italy’s relationship with modern family life. Space Caviar |
