Presented at the 14th edition of Lo schermo dell'arte, 2021 In the summer of 2020, a small tourist plane flies over the crowded beaches of the Roman coast, dragging banners with an inscription consisting of a single verb in Italian and English. What at first glance may seem like an advertising operation is actually the personal exhibition of the great American artist Lawrence Weiner, produced by MACRO - Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome and curated by Luca Lo Pinto. The project is linked to the book that bears the same title TRACCE / TRACES edited by Germano Celant and produced in 1970 by the Sperone Gallery. In the skies between Anzio and Ladispoli, ten aerial banners appear in which a single verb suggests an action that could’ve occurred in the past or that might be expected in the future. The documentary collects the impressions of people on the beach who unexpectedly find themselves living this ephemeral artistic experience in which the past participle verbs - split, affronted, mashed - isolated from their context open to interesting reflections on art and wide interpretations.
