Presented at Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival 2015

Based on Jacqueline Bograd Weld’s biography of Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979), the film is a portrait of the most famous art collector of all time. Director Lisa Immordino Vreeland traces Peggy’s eccentric life, devoted to amassing an extraordinary collection of modern art, which has flowed to museums in Venice and New York. Extracts from an interview conducted during Peggy’s last years interweave with archival footage, including previously unreleased details of her relations with artists such as Samuel Beckett, Constantin Brancusi and Max Ernst. The film follows the stages of Peggy’s life: the openings of her famous galleries - Guggenheim Jeune in Paris, and Art of This Century in New York; her relations with the artists she passionately supported - Wassily Kandinsky, Salvador Dalí, Robert Motherwell and Jackson Pollock. The film also features commentaries from art world figures such as Marina Abramovic, gallerist Larry Gagosian, curator Klaus Biesenbach and actor Robert De Niro, whose parents were artists, and whose works were included in Peggy’s collection. 

Lisa Immordino Vreeland 
Started her career in fashion, as PR director in Italy for Polo Ralph Lauren. She launched two brands, Pratic and Mago. Her first book, Diana Vreeland. L’imperatrice della moda (Empress of Fashion) was accompanied by her directorial debut, a documentary of the same title (2011), which had its European premiere at the Festival di Venezia, and won a Silver Hugo at the Chicago Film Festival.
