Lo schermo dell’arte partecipa alla sesta edizione di Secret Florence, progetto speciale dell’Estate Fiorentina 2021 promosso dal Comune di Firenze, presentando al Cinema La Compagnia la versione rimasterizzata in 4K di un film cult del genere biopic ambientato nella swinging London della fine degli anni Sessanta e inizio Settanta: A Bigger Splash (1974) di Jack Hazan.
Tra documentario e fiction, è la biografia dell’artista britannico David Hockney nel quale gli attori e lo stesso Hockney re-interpretano se stessi e le vicende vissute dalla cerchia di amici intorno al pittore. Vi si narra, ad esempio, la realizzazione di note opere dell’artista quali Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) e la fine dell’intensa e travagliata relazione con Peter Schlesinger, partner, assistente e musa del pittore. Vi appaiono, tra gli altri gli stilisti Celia Birtwell e Ossie Clark, il gallerista John Kasmin e il curatore Henry Geldzahler.

Cult film set in the swinging London of the late ’60s. It is the biography of British artist David Hockney interpreted by himself and his circle of friends. On its release, it caused a scandal because of explicit homosexual sex scenes.
Secret Florence, a strategic project of the Estate Fiorentina, presents its sixth edition, after the special edition at Parco delle Cascine last year.
The project is realised by the five realities of international scope active in the City of Florence, Lo schermo dell’arte, Fabbrica Europa, Musicus Concentus, Tempo Reale, and Virgilio Sieni.
