In this short animation, the phenomenon of the migration crisis is shown from a different perspective, specifically through the eyes of a bird from above. The story is also unique: a solitary man limps along the road when a truck approaches him, and several armed men jump out, capture him, and transport him into the forest. The only witnesses to the scene are the inhabitants of a nearby village. Through a simple animation technique characterized by two-dimensional settings and primary colors, we witness situations that, since 2021, have become commonplace in the wooded areas along the EU’s Polish-Belarusian border, the site of an ongoing refugee crisis.
Szymon Ruczyński (Poland, 2000) is an animation student at the Lodz Film School. In 2021 and 2022, Szymon participated in the transport of humanitarian aid to refugees hiding in the forests of the Polish-Belarusian border. In his stories, he uses animation to address current and socially relevant issues.
