The Right

Anne Pirsch is an elderly security guard at the Zwinger Palace in Dresden. At the end of her career she writes a letter to the Director of the Sztuki Museum in Lodz, requesting a transfer as a volunteer. The decision to change her workplace indulges her hidden desire to get closer to the AR group (Revolutionary Artists), one of the best-known avant-garde groups of the Polish left since 1930, for which Anne cultivates a passionate interest. This short is the fourth film in the cycle called The Anonymity of the Night cycle by artist Assaf Gruber. The Right is a fictional story framed by historic and patriotic feelings; the film recalls the old woman’s words through a reading of her written request, while a succession of shots creates an intimate path that follows the protagonist as she carries out daily tasks in her home. While the different home environments are compared to museum spaces, occupied by objects that recall closely the AR group’s geometrical works, on the other hand the museum is considered as a second home, a safe haven of ideas and expression of creative thinking.
