The film investigates the transformation of the art world into a multimillion-dollar market, through interviews with artists – including Jeff Koons, whose works are the most highly priced in the world; and Larry Poons, who lives as a recluse in his country home and strongly criticizes the ruthless laws of the same market that made him rich in the ’70s – and curators, collectors and art dealers. The Price of Everything penetrates the superficial world of auctions and trades, such as those atSotheby’s and Christie’s, where old and new works are sold at prices ten times higher than they would have brought fifteen years ago.
