The artist follows a Kazakh berkutchi (eagle hunter) as he attempts to tame his wild eagle, Sadak. This centuries’ old tradition finds a new meaning in Staying with the trouble. In a world, in which the flow of people and data has become exceedingly complex to grasp, the film turns to the unsung sense of touch – the one that we depend on the most and talk about the least. The sense that is able to reveal the power dynamics that define us.
Alyona Larionova is an artist and filmmaker based in London. Her works investigate important subjects of our contemporary society, such as technology, globalization, digital archives. The tension between order and chaos, and the rapid changes in technological and natural spheres occurring in the world, are what propel her research forward. Since late 2015, she has been developing a series of works that call into question the very nature of storytelling and our obsession with certain narratives. Her films and installations have been shown internationally in film festivals and group exhibitions, such as Flatpack Film Festival, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Videobrasil, Tenderflix Video Award, MOSTYN, II Moscow Biennial of Young Art and VII Moscow Biennial of Contemporary Art, among others.
