In “Manifesto”, Julian Rosefeldt worked with Australian actress Oscar Cate Blanchett to give life to some of the most famous and provocative writings of great modern-day artists. Born as a 13-channel installation exhibited at major contemporary art centers such as Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, and ACMI in Melbourne, the film features a series of extraordinary monologues that Rosefeldt has created by assembling and editing manifesto texts by artists, architects, poets, performers, and directors such as Sol LeWitt, Claes Oldenburg, Yvonne Rainer, Jim Jarmusch and Guy Debord. Blanchett plays these new manifestos as 13 different characters, including a teacher, a television reporter, a factory worker, a widow, a homeless person, to explore the power and urgency of these historical words in our world today.
The film premiered at the Biografilm Festival – International Celebration of Lives 2017, will be distributed in Italy on November 20, 2017 by I Wonder Pictures/Unipol Biografilm Collection.
Julian Rosefeldt. Born in Munich in 1965, he lives in Berlin. He studied architecture in Munich and Barcelona. His artistic work consists mainly of elaborate video installations, which in most cases are shown as multi-channel panoramic projections. Rosefeldt has exhibited his works internationally since 1997, and his works are kept in permanent collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Saatchi Gallery in London and the Goetz Collection in Munich. In 2009 he exhibited his one-man show American Night in Florence, at EX3.
