Heinz Peter Schwerfel, born 1954 in Cologne, is a filmmaker and art critic. He works for the German edition of ART Kunstmagazin, for Lettre International and ZEIT, among others, and has published several books on contemporary artists such as Georg Baselitz, Jannis Kounellis, Markus Lüpertz, as well as essays: Art after Ground Zero and Cinema and Art, a book about the relationship between contemporary art and Hollywood, translated into Turkish. He is the founder and artistic director of the former KunstFilmBiennale, Cologne (2002 – 2009) and today of the festival Kino der Kunst, Munich (since 2013), focussing on fictional films by artists.
