Erwin Wurm. The Artist Who Swallowed the World

With his “fattened” houses and cars, and above all his popular “One Minute Sculptures” series – which inspired the video “Can’t stop” (2003) by the Red Hot Chili Peppers – Erwin Wurm has radically transformed the language of contemporary sculpture and the way it’s perceived. Re-working the “social sculpture” of Joseph Beuys–a reference point who emerges from the stories he tells–the noted Austrian artist has taken this form of expression beyond the traditional boundaries of art, contaminating it with performance, photography and video, and using irony as a privileged means of critical reflection. Following the artist at work and during the mounting of several recent shows, from Beijing to Miami, we discover, along with the director, his personality and vision of art.
