DUCK is Scottish artist Rachel Maclean’s first exploration into the world of deepfakes. Using deepfake imagery and audio, the artist—who plays all the characters—swaps her voice and face with those of Marilyn Monroe and Sean Connery, brought back to the screen through artificial intelligence. Blending elements of classic Hollywood cinema, video games, film noir, and science fiction, DUCK sees Sean Connery/James Bond playing the role that suits him best: gathering clues, outwitting attackers, and eliminating the femme fatale Marilyn Monroe, only to discover that nothing is as it seems. The thematic thread running through DUCK is one of socio-political conspiracy, particularly revolving around JFK, Marilyn Monroe, and UFOs, raising ironic questions about truth and power.
