Damien Hirst was awarded the prestigious Turner Prize in 1995, and was celebrated in 2012 by the Tate Modern in London with a first major retrospective, scheduled to run concurrently with the mega-show “Damien Hirst: The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011” at 11 branches of the world-wide Gagosian Gallery. In this film, the popular and controversial artist describes himself, delivering an unusual self-portrait. Accompanied by a soundtrack featuring pieces by The Clash, The Stone Roses and Peters & Lee, Hirst talks about his life’s work, his youth in Leeds and artistic formation in London, and his recent years. The monologue is enlivened by original photos and films, many from the artist’s personal archive.
