Katharina Grosse (Freiburg, Germany 1961) is known for her site-specific installations, which create immersive environments through the use of brightly colored acrylic paints. Among these Canyon, inaugurated in 2022 at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, is an imposing suspended installation that combines painting and sculpture, a painting object capable of turning painting into a spatial experience. In this short documentary the artist talks about the motivations behind her work while the video camera follows the conception and creation of the work. After Olafur Eliasson, Ellsworth Kelly and Adrián Villar Rojas, Grosse is the fourth artist to engage with the architectural spaces Frank Gehry designed for the foundation’s Paris HQ.
