Invasions: that’s how street artist Invader defines his own work. They’re mosaics, made with tesserae of different sizes to simulate the pixels that form creatures from the videogame Space Invaders, and are placed on buildings in public spaces world-wide. After 15 years of experimentation, Invader decided on another challenge: to invade outer space. In 2012, he produced Space One, a mosaic equipped with a weather balloon, RFID and GPS chips, a video device to record images and a crash-landing safety system. Space One is ready for launch into outer space; earth awaits information recorded by the device’s camera. The launch site is Miami, just south of the Space Coast, where NASA blast-offs occur. The film documents the first artwork site-specific to the stratosphere.
