Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival collaborates with Museo Salvatore Ferragamo at the exhibition Italy in Hollywood, dedicated to the relationships and the role played by Italians and Italian art in the birth of cinema.
Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival has involved two young Italian artists based in Los Angeles, Yuri Ancarani and Manfredi Gioacchini, which have realized two new productions exploring the theme of the exhibition: One hundred years have passed and who are the Italians working in Hollywood today? What is it about California that strikes artists arriving from Italy?

Filmmaker Yuri Ancarani realized a video installation editing several clips filmed at Zuma Beach. This place, a stunning naturally scenographic environment, has been a location for cult films such as Franklin J. Schaffner’s The Planet of the Apes . In Ancarani’s work the beach becomes as a symbol of social-anthropological change of our time. The artist filmed with an Iphone spontaneous set for common people that everyday take selfies or posing before the camera with the willing to share on the social networks their pictures.

Manfredi Gioacchini, Italian photographer based in Los Angeles since 2013, realized a series of 14 black-and-white portraits of Italian professionals working today for Hollywood. Gioacchini presents a gallery of characters, portrayed in their homes or in their working places. They are producers, directors of photography, screenwriters, film editors, actors, special effects specialists, men and women, young and old, whose skills and competence contribute, just as their predecessors did one century ago, to the world’s leading cinema industry.

The exhibition Italy in Hollywood based on Salvatore Ferragamo’s autobiography explores Italian migration to California and the influence that the bel paese’s myths and culture had on the state. An extensive section is devoted to Californian film productions in which this Italian influence is evident. The exhibition centres around the world of art, artisans and entertainment, the fields in which Ferragamo focused his creativity, and presents them as if they were the plot of a film.
