Stray

by Jonas Brinker
Egypt 2020, 5′
Presented at Lo schermo dell’arte 2020 The film is part of VISIO – European Programme on Artists’ Moving Images – 9th edition
In a rocky, dystopian desert landscape, stray dogs contemplate a mountain range and then move in packs. The only human traces left are spectacular empty buildings damaged by atmospheric agents. The viewer’s gaze judges the scenes in reference to the dog in a domestic environment compared to a wild one. Animals don’t distinguish the artificial from the natural. The video was shot among the remains of an unfinished tourist residence currently inhabited by stray dogs who ignore the gaze of passersby and the video camera.
