In Cali, Colombia, a tailor, a puppeteer, a parapsychologist and a physicist narrate certain episodes supposedly occurred in the city: the disappearance of a cow; a form of possession produced by a puppet; a paradox in quantum mechanics; the fall of a bus into a river caused by a lion on the road. These stories could be intertwined with each other following a scientific theory. In quantum physics, if two particles interact in a certain way and then become separated, regardless how distant they are from each other they will share a state called ‘quantum entanglement’. That is, they will keep sharing information despite their separation.
Riccardo Giacconi has studied fine arts at the University IUAV of Venezia. His videos investigate, isolate and narrate to the public hidden and unknown stories discovered during his stay with specific communities. His work has been exhibited in various institutions, such as ar/ge kunst (Bolzano), MAC (Belfast), WUK Kunsthalle Exnergasse (Vienna), FRAC Champagne-Ardenne (Reims), tranzitdisplay (Prague), MAXXI (Rome), Peep-Hole (Milano), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin) and at the 6th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. He was artist-in-residence at the Centre international d’art et du paysage (Vassivière, France), Lugar a Dudas (Cali, Colombia). He presented his films at several festivals, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Visions du Réel and FID Marseille, where he won the Grand Prix of the international competition in 2015. In 2007 he co-founded the collective Blauer Hase, with whom he curates the periodical publication Paesaggio and the Helicotrema festival.
