Adam Szymczyk, curator of documenta 14, in conversation with Salvatore Lacagnina, curator and co-creator of the Studio14 program for Athens documenta 14.
Adam Szymczyk is a curator and author based in Zurich. He was director and chief curator of Kunsthalle Basel between 2003 and 2014, and then served as artistic director of Documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel between 2014 and 2017. At present, he is curator-at-large at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. In 2022, he founded the Verein by Association, a nonprofit association for contemporary arts and culture in Zurich.

Salvatore Lacagnina (Siracusa, 1973) works as an independent critic, curator, educator and translator, in the fields of contemporary arts, design, and architecture. He has directed institutions such as Montevergini – City Gallery for Contemporary Art, Siracusa (2001-2008), Swiss Institute in Rome with venues in Rome, Milan, and Venice (2008-2016), Shedhalle Zürich (2017-2018). He contributed to the program of international exhibitions such as the 5th and the 7th Berlin Biennale (2008 and 2012), and was the initiator of Studio 14 as part of documenta 14 (Athens and Kassel 2017). He is the artistic director of LAVINIA, a new program for Contemporary art, developed in the Loggia dei vini, Villa Borghese, Roma.
