In Lebanon, power cuts are not an isolated event but a new reality. The film was made in early 2024 at the National Museum of Beirut, which houses a collection of archaeological artifacts, including Roman mosaics, Phoenician statues, and items from ancient Egypt. With its invaluable collection, this place often faces electricity outages. However, visitors remain undeterred and eager to explore it, despite the circumstances. Armed with their phones, they illuminate the artworks, uncovering traces of past civilizations while the world around them seems to crumble. In the darkness, where shadows prevail over light, everything appears transformed.
Filmmakers and artists Joana Hadjithomas (Libano, 1969) and Khalil Joreige (Libano,1969) work between photography, installations, video, and cinema, whether documentary or fiction films. They question the fabrication of images and representations, the construction of imaginaries and the writing of history. Their artworks are part of the most important exhibitions and collections. They are recipient of the prestigious Marcel Duchamp Prize.
