Lo schermo dell’arte Film Festival is part of the third edition of Secret Florence – a strategic event of Estate Fiorentina supported by Comune di Firenze and Pitti Immagine – with a tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat thirty years after his death.
The 12th of June Lo schermo dell’arte presents at Cinema La Compagnia two films that tell the story of the famous writer who brought graffiti from the street to the art gallery: the postmodern fairy tale Downtown 81 by Edo Bertoglio and played by Basquiat himself. And the Italian premiere of the documentary Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat by Sara Driver, just released in the United States.
Downtown 81, between documentary and fiction, shows a day of the young artist, playing himself, around-down streets of New York. Boom for Real, using archival materials and interviews, focuses on the early period of a you Basquiat.
Secret Florence is supported by Pitti Immagine and is part of the “Programma Speciale Fiere Pitti Immagine 2018”, promoted by the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana and supported by Mise (Ministero Sviluppo Economico) and Agenzia Ice as part of the general support project for Italian fairs and the Made in Italy.
