A woman lies awake in the middle of the night. While she tosses and turns, a flame passes through her without burning her. The flame spreads and the panels continue to change, a blue associated with peaceful dreams appears sporadically to remind the viewer that it’s middle of the night. Outside her home is a set with theatre backdrops that represent the alternating landscapes of the state between dream and reality. In this short film Apichatpong condenses themes of his cinema and installations, simulating a scenario in which the painted landscapes represent the possibility of voluntarily changing what we see when asleep and awake, and to voluntarily remain in that limbo.
