Presented at Lo schermo dell'arte Film Festival 2018
This episode of the American television series Art in the Twenty-First Century to the Berlin scene. Over the years, the German city has become a reference point and a refuge for artists from all over the world, a free zone where experimentation, individual expression and influences of all kinds converge.
Here we see Swedish artists Hans Berg and Nathalie Djurbergat work, their are currently showing at MART in Rovereto; Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, famous for his projects involving space, light and natural elements; Iraq artist Hiwa K, whose short film Pre-image (Blind as the Mother Tongue) was presented by Lo schermo dell’arte; and Scottish artist Susan Philipsz, winner of the Turner Prize in 2010.
From the design and implementation of large-scale projects up to the most intimate and personal research, the artists in this episode demonstrate the different modes of work and sensitivity that coexist in this unique city.

Under their production banner RAVA films Rafael Salazar and Ava Wiland have written, directed and produced many short documentaries which have received prestigious festival selection, as the Palm Springs Shortfest and the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and have been featured at museums such as Whitney Museum and TATE. The two filmmakers are best known for producing series of documentaries celebrating contemporary artists: New York Close Up, FIELDWORKS and smARTpower.
