Schermo dell'Arte - Archivio Film
Presented at Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival 2015

A look into the world of Polish contemporary art, based on the life of artist Oskar Dawicki, who plays himself in the film. Dressed in the bright blue jacket which has become a characteristic element of his performances, Dawicki subtly and ironically deals with questions linked to his artistic identity and the paradoxes of reality. His performances and those of his teacher Zbigniew Warpechowski alternate in the film, edited together with archival- and new action footage. They appear as their own cinematic alter egos, creating a winning world of doubles and fictions. Through emotions and small daily challenges, extreme gestures and terminal visions, directors Maciej Sobieszczanski and Łukasz Ronduda, curator of the Warsaw Contemporary Art Center, create an excellent mix of documentation and fiction, culminating with the emblematic epilogue: the artist fakes his own death during one of his actions.
