Presented at Lo schermo dell'arte Film Festival 2014 Despite being under house arrest and under constant surveillance by the Chinese regime, Ai Weiwei continues to prepare shows for museums and art centers world-wide, including his major one-man show at the Martin-Gropius Bau in Berlin. The film follows a visit by the institution’s director, Gereon Sievernich, to discuss and select works for the show. Filmed in the artist’s residence, on the outskirts of Beijing, and in the studio where he works with a team of assistants and artisans, and in Berlin, during the installation of the show, which the artist helped to plan, the film focuses on Stools, an installation produced for the atrium, made up of over 6,000 wooden stools commonly used for ages in the Chinese countryside. |
